Diabetes Risk Self Screening

As per WHO's estimates, half the diabetics in the world do not know they have diabetes.

Diabetes is a leading cause for blindness, kidney failure and amputations. The diabetics are at higher risk for strokes and heart attack.. Majority of diabetic men above 50 also suffers from impotence. Type 2 diabetes, to which most belong, is preventable in the majority of people at risk. Even after reaching the stage of Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT), progression to diabetes can be prevented in the majority even without the use of medicines.

So it is worthwhile spending a couple of minutes for self-screening of diabetes on the guidelines given by the American Diabetes Association. (Diabetes care. 2000; 23:S20-23)
